The best Hollywood thriller movies you can watch

What is life without a thriller, so is Hollywood. You may like cute romances or those fancy chick-flicks, but nothing will get your heart racing like a good Hollywood thriller movie. The build up and tension of some of these exceptional movies won’t let you leave your sit and every moment you will feel like holding your breathe to know what happens next. In my opinion, Hollywood’s thriller movies are the most creative and well though out movies across all the genres.

Before jumping to my best hollywood thriller movies list, I want to say, these are my personal favourite movies which I watched in last 10 years. There are always classics but to keep the list relevant and precise I avoided movies released before 2000. Most of these thriller movies are available in Netflix or Amazon prime and also scored well in IMDB and rotten tomatoes if your care.

1. Prisoners (2013)

Prisoner is a crime thriller film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman. This film is about a father searching for his daughter risking his own life. To know If he finds his daughter, you have to watch the movie, but I promise it is one hell of a suspense thriller movies you can watch right now.

2. Don’t breathe (2016)

There is no ghost in this film, but I bet very few will be able to finish this movie alone. Don’t breathe is one of the most terrifying horror thriller movies, where three burglar friends try their tooth and nail to save their lives while trying to steal a fortune from a blind man’s house.

3. Gone Girl (2014)

Whenever I think of the best Hollywood thriller movies list, Gone girl always comes to mind first. Nick Dunne’s (Ben Affleck) life turns upside down after the mysterious disappearance of his wife. Rosamund Pike as Nick’s wife has given stellar performance. You will be baffled to see what obsession and revenge can turn out to be.

4. Shutter Island (2010)

Shutter Island is one of the best thriller movies on Netflix. An asylum in a distant remote location, a patient disappears. Lionardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo are assigned to find the darkest truth about the location. This is a gem of Hollywood suspense thriller movies.

5. Nightcrawler (2014)

Jake Gyllenhaal always nails the english suspense thriller movies and Nightcrwaler is one of his best. How far a crime photographer can go to capture the most henious and extreme crimes? Well you will be surprised, there is no limit.  This crime thriller on a sociopath stringer proves that even the best of us has some evil in them.

6. The Town (2010)

When love looms between the hostage and the kidnapper, things are ought to be complicated. Some of the most skilled thieves including Ben Affleck successfully robbed the bank and held the assistant manager as hostage. Everything was smooth till…

This is one of the very few thriller movies that will blow your mind, not once but every time you watch.

7. A quiet place (2018)

The real life couple, John Kransinski and Emily Blunt are the stars of this sci fiction thriller and they are on the verge of facing the worst nightmare a couple can face. This is not the same Jim Halpert you loved from office, now he is in one of the most intriguing plots and he need to be rugged. Most humans are killed, now his family is on stake.

8. Argo (2012)

Argo is undoubtedly the best crime thriller movies by Ben Affleck. The exfiltration specialist turns a Hollywood producer to save the life of six Americans held in Tehran. It might seem like another espionage thriller movie but believe me it’s not. The tension and twists will keep you on toes always while the story line smoothly progresses.

9. Ex Machina (2014)

Ex Machina is an exceptional sci-fi thriller, with a great story, drama and tension. The human-machine interaction drama is though provoking and really creative. The lighting and atmosphere are impeccable, with no detail left out. This movie is a real work of art with some suspense and creepiness to boot.

10. Split (2016)

Split is a psychological thriller, one of the best. Kevin, who suffers dissociative identity disorder, has 23 alter egos. He kidnapped three teenagers and if they want to live, they have to act fast before he unleashes is 24th alter ego. Believe me it’s never easy when James McAvoy is against you.

11. The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)

Whenever I think of this movie I get goosebumps, after all it’s the scariest movie in this list of best thriller movies. Well, it has some horror elements in it, but it’s the the plot and atmosphere which truly provokes the fear. The father son duo is investigating the reason of death of the beautiful Jane Doe, but they don’t know what they are going to face.

12. The Invisible Guest (2016)

This a thriller master piece. Bollywoods’s “Baadla” film is based on The Invisible Guest and for good reasons. The plot is meticulously written and every twist and turn feels so natural and surprising that you will be satisfied with the time you have spent for this movie. The character build-up is good and the pace is just perfect that you will be thoroughly involved in finding the true killer of the dead lover.
